What an enjoyable experience!
I left Worksop College at 6.35 pm, having taken a coaching session with the Under 15s.
Must get to Highfirlds asap. Youngy wants me there. Can't let him down. I've got the Agenda in the boot, though can't see anything interesting on it. Only something about the Single System for Hockey - and that I've down-loaded from the EHA website.
Never mind, I promised. Can't let Youngy down. Drive as fast as I can in aging Citroen along foggy road filed with manic commuters returning to distant lands. ETA Highfields - 7.15 pm given tail wind, clear roads and green lights.
No wind, just fog. Crowded roads. Red lights. 40 mph round ring road. Need a pee. Never mind. Promised Youngy. They'll only have reached item 4 by the time I get there.
Arrive Highfields 7.28 pm. Rush up stairs. Need a pee. No. Open door of Seminar Room 1.
7 people look at me.
'Mike, how nice to see you,' says Lesley Evans. 'Don't get many men's clubs turning up. In fact, never get Nottingham turning up.'
'Promised Youngy I'd get here, just for item 7,' I panted, bladder painfully full.
'Oh - we started at 7.00, you know, and we've nearly finished - on any other business now,' said Lesley Evans. 'Didn't have anything to discuss - just this diagram on how young people will develop in the Single System of Hockey, and that's from the website.' I looked at the diagram and compared it with the download I had brought. The same.
Thank you, Youngy, I thought as I stood at the urinal for 10 minutes. Thank you. No-one around to have a drink with. Now all I have to do is drive back to Mansfield.
