Presentation to Don Nettleton - Nottingham Life President

On Tuesday 30th January, Don Nettleton was honoured at the Nottinghamshire Sports Review of the Year 2006 by being 'added to the Roll of Honour for Services to Sport in Nottinghamshire'.

At a ceremony in the packed-out theatre at the East Midlands Conference Centre in University Park, Mike Allen (who nominated Don) received the inscribed tray on Don's behalf as he was in Spain sunning himself!

The evening was held to reward and recognise sportspeople from Notts - including Nathan Robertson and Lee Westwood (who received the top awards, in absentia). Hundreds of amateur sportspeople had been nominated, many of them making the printed programme and three or four being shortlisted for each award. The evening was a huge success - and a great insight into the strength and diversity of sport in the county.

Hockey was well represented - Beeston Mens 1st XI won the Team of the Year award, with Manning and Newark Ladies' teams nominated as well. Other hockey nominees included Adam Dixon of Beeston, Grahame Mansell-Grace (gk coach) and Judith Keeling and Zoe Appleyard for Volunteer of the Year. In addition, Christine Fergusson of Newark HC (Juniors) was nominated for the Roll of Honour, while Joan Wall was 'added to the Roll' with Don for her work in hockey (presently the Notts HA Secretary).

Don has been honoured in illustrious company, and our congratulations go to him.
