1st Dec: Chesterfield 1 - 0 Nottingham
Nottingham went into this game against high flying Chesterfield looking to build on recent performances and give the top 2 side a good run for their money, in the end they left ruing missed chances to take a point or 3 home.
The game started at a frantic pace with Chesterfield coming out all guns blazing, from their pressure they created penalty corners and were fortunate to take the lead courtesy of a deflection off a defenders stick. Fortune favoured Nottingham moments latter when Chesterfield saw what seemed to be a well worked corner disallowed; after this stroke of luck Nottingham started to put pressure on the Chesterfield goal and soon forced the home side into defensive duties. The half continued to be an even affair with both sides creating opportunities, Nottingham forcing to good penalty corner saves from the Chesterfield keeper.
Into the second half and Nottingham resumed the stronger and the pattern of the game set - Nottingham with the lions share of possession and Chesterfield defending hard and playing on mostly on the break. In the end it was penalty corners that would settle the game; with both defensive units proving to be well organised Nottingham went close (but not close enough) several times but were unable to get the ball over the line. On another day it could have been 1 or all 3 points but Nottingham left feeling disappointed not to get something out of the game.
Next week Nottingham entertain Worcester - 1400 at the Goose.
